WINDSOR, N.S. — Even in death, Lisa Wood is making an impact.
Family and friends of Wood gathered at the Windsor Waterfront recently for the 3rd Annual Lisa’s Legacy 5km Walk to honour her memory.
Wood, a mother of two and well-known real estate agent, lost her battle with cancer in May of 2015.
Traditionally, the legacy walk has raised funds for the Relay for Life. This year, however, donations will go to the new Lisa Wood Memorial Award, which will be presented by her eight-year-old daughter Livia, at Avon View High School’s graduation.
The award will be given to a female student athlete who plays basketball and displays similar qualities as Wood did.
In the words of her own former teammates, those qualities were grit, determination, dedication, hard work, and a sassy sense of humour. The student must also have been in a three-year program.
Keeping her memory “Hants County Strong,” participants aged three to 80 were high-spirited and eager to get the event started at the Pisiquid Canoe Club on May 27.
Her children, Livia, 9, and Grady, 4, were among those walking in memory.
It was an emotional day, yet many of Wood’s family and friends were able to smile as they celebrated the lasting impact she has had.
